In 2006, Osman Jr wanted to bring Nuyorican salsa sound into funk universe like it was done during the 70’s decade, wanting to break the academic rules and
perpetuate the meeting between the latin clave and the funky beat. He reunited the best friends musicians around him to build that real band project. The common link
was their love for Jazz, Latin Funk, Soul & Hip Hop music. After some successful live exhibitions where they tooked on puertorican maestros Tite Curet Alonso and Cheo
Feliciano, they decided to work on original latin funk fusion recording sessions, with their friend Julien Lebrun (DJ/Producer) and Hot Casa record.
After a sparkling debut with their first albums “Funky Tumbao” (Hot Casa Records/Fat Beats 2010) and Latin Piece Of Soul (Hot Casa Records/ The
Pusher/Forced Exposure 2013), after successful live experiences (1) and strong links developed with New York, the french seven-piece combo is back in April 2016 with a modern definition of latin music on LATIN BIG NOTE Records. Following their oustanding live collaboration at Théâtre Les Etoiles in Paris, and Jazz Mix de Vienne in June 2015, they invite Joe BATAAN, the latin soul legend, to record. My Rainbow, a rare bolero, soulful, with spiritual lyrics written by the godfather, maybe a new classic ballad for the history.
Composed collectively, this album mixes up Latin, Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk, modern Jazz, or Psychedelic Boogaloo, with a percussive and strong vocal section, sung in spanish, english, creole, yoruba and french, for the first time in their repertoire, with the easy to sing and danceMadame Shingaling. SETENTA, The Latin Soul Band from Paris, spreads love, peace and positive live energy all over the world, from « Paris to Nueva York ».
Joe BATAAN, one of the first recruits of the legendary team FANIA Records and co- founder of the Salsoul label, is an influence assumed by Setenta. And it’s specifically this filiation recognized by the Latin Soul Godfather himself, when they met in NEW YORK, in summer 2014, which inspired him to offer the band to accompany him on his shows in France and Europe. That is why the Parisian New Latin Soul Band just as naturally invited Joe BATAAN to headback to the recording studio to engrave this exciting encounter on wax.
